asprintf returns -1, not an arbitrary value < 0. Also upon error the (very sloppy specification) leaves an undefined value in *ret, so it is wrong to inspect it, the error condition is enough. discussed a little with nicm, and then much more with millert until we were exasperated

Use strdup in xstrdup from Fritjof Bornebusch. While here, remove xfree which is unused.

New implementation of the file(1) utility. This is a simplified, modernised version with a nearly complete magic(5) parser but omits some of the complex builtin tests (notably ELF) and has a reduced set of options. ok deraadt
