1.27 deraadt 385:
1.219 austin 386:
Postage will vary depending on your location relative to the shipping
1.231 austin 387: address. Special instructions should be specified in the comments of the
388: order. By default we ship as follows: Shipments of single CD sets to USA
389: and Canada will be sent by First Class (Air)mail. For other countries, and
390: for small shipments, we will typically use AirMail "Small Packet" class.
391: Note that these regular postal services are not trackable (you knew that,
392: right?), and shipping is FOB our depot. Say "please insure" in the
393: comments, if you want postal insurance and read carefully the discussion
394: about shipping insurance below.
395:
396:
To insure or not to insure? Items lost in the regular mail are at
397: your risk and expense. You agree to accept our shipping records as the
398: final proof of shipment. However, if a problem does occur, your affidavit
399: that the parcel was not received, plus our shipping records, are generally
400: sufficient to persuade Canada post to refund postage paid. Secondly, under
401: such circumstances, we will replace items lost, at manufacturing cost, which
402: is at most half price, and almost trivial for CD sets and posters. For
403: example a poster gone missing in the mail can be replaced for $2.

404:
405: Cost of insurance will vary according to the value of the shipment, except
406: that for small shipments there is a minimum cost of about $7-10 (CDN $ in
407: Canada, US $ elsewhere) - which is why we usually recommend not to insure
408: for small shipments. Moreover, inside USA and Canada, there is a service
409: called (Priority) Express Post, which in addition to trackability and
410: guaranteed faster delivery, includes some insurance. See further discussion
411: below.

412:
413: Default insurance for air parcels > 1 kg to USA: Our post office offers
414: default insurance up to $100 CDN (about $65 US) for air parcels weighing
415: more than 1 kg and that means, really, twice or more than that amount, since
416: we replace losses at cost. So for shipments of approximately 5 or more
417: T-shirts (depending on size) or 9 or more CD ROM sets, you can trust there
418: is at least some insurance, since by default we ship by air.

419:
420: Default insurance for air parcels > 2 kg sent outside USA/Canada:
421: Our post office offers default insurance of up to $100 CDN (about $65 US)
422: for air parcels weighing more than 2 kg. (comments in previous paragraph
423: apply here too).

424:
425: Registration: Outside USA/Canada we typically "register" parcels for
426: weights between 0.2 kg and 2.0 kg. Cost of registration is $7-10 US in
427: addition to the "small packet air" postage. Registration includes $40 US of
428: insurance. You may specify not to register if you wish to accept the risk,
429: or you may specify "please do register" if you are not certain if your
430: package will registered (since otherwise we will use our own judgment,
431: sometimes depending on experience with various countries).
432:
433:
434:
In USA/Canada less than 1% of items go missing in the mail; it might be
435: yours, yet paying for postal insurance is an expensive gamble. But if you
436: absolutely can't stand risk, do insure by all means. In North America
437: consider specifying Express Mail
438: (trackable), or a courier like FEDEX
439: (also trackable).
1.219 austin 440:
1.231 austin 441:
Note that postage cost for a CD set is expected to be around $3 -
1.219 austin 442: $5 USD (yes, that is in addition to the base $30 USD price). Packages will
443: generally be mailed from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. (Some US orders are
444: mailed from a US depot -- but unlikely at initial release time). Typical
445: airmail postage rates for quantity 1 are roughly:
446:

447:

448:
Canada $3 CDN. Expect 7 days.
449:
USA $3 USD ($4 CDN). Expect 7 - 10 days.
450:
World $4 USD ($5 CDN). Expect two weeks.
451:

452:
1.231 austin 453: EXPRESS POST A new service, previously not available, but for Canada
454: and USA only, is Express Post, with 3-6 day delivery, up to $50 insurance
455: included, and trackability from Canadapost
456: This is now an new option on the web order form.
457:
1.219 austin 458:
459:
For a single CD set:
460:

461:
Canada $7. Expect 3 - 4 days.
1.231 austin 462:
USA $10. Expect 4 - 6 days.
1.219 austin 463:

464:
465: If you want your CD to come very quickly, you can choose Fedex or UPS
466: overnight. Note, that for single CD's it is cheaper to get overnight
467: delivery than to get 2 or 3 day delivery! If you choose overnight,
468: you very likely do NOT want to use the Internet web ordering system,
469: but rather want to order your package by phoning the Computer Shop phone
470: number (403 243-4356). By phoning before 3PM Mountain Time, you can usually
471: have it by early the next morning!
472:
473:
If you are ordering the CD plus other items, consider having only the CD
474: sent by overnight and other things by regular airmail or express post. CD's
475: are relatively inexpensive to send by courier (we class them as documents),
1.231 austin 476: whereas T-shirts, and especially posters, are quite expensive that way.
477: Sometimes, particularly for posters, we will guess that this is what you
478: want to do. Say in the comments if you really want all items sent by
479: courier, even posters.
1.219 austin 480:
481:
For Canada, and USA only, you may specify "use credit card" in the box
482: where it says courier account number. In that case we will pass on
483: your credit card number to the courier company. You will get a separate
484: debit from them (for the shipping portion only). But we prefer if you do
485: have a courier account number already. If requesting shipping to a company
486: address, ask if they have one that can be used (or phone FEDEX or UPS and
1.231 austin 487: ask what it is).

1.219 austin 488:
489:
Typical Fedex or UPS priority shipping rates for quantity 1 are roughly:
1.27 deraadt 490:

1.219 austin 491:
Canada $13.00 CDN. Overnight if phoned in before 3PM MST.
1.231 austin 492:
USA $19 USD ($28 CDN). Overnight (to most cities) if phoned in before 3PM MST.
1.219 austin 493:
World $36 USD ($55.00 CDN) -- 2 to 4 day service. Must have courier account #. If necessary,
494: apply for one or, otherwise, use insured AIR MAIL post for the closest
495: equivalent.
496:

1.1 deraadt 497:
1.231 austin 498: Partial shipments: Sometimes a T-shirt of a certain size might not be
499: in stock. We will sometimes not send final partial shipments by Express
500: Post or courier even when Express Post or courier is specified on the order
501: form. Give specific instructions in the comments of the order if wanting to
502: override this possible judgement call on our part.
