1.247 miod 416:
Postage will vary depending on your location relative to the shipping
1.231 austin 417: address. Special instructions should be specified in the comments of the
418: order. By default we ship as follows: Shipments of single CD sets to USA
419: and Canada will be sent by First Class (Air)mail. For other countries, and
420: for small shipments, we will typically use AirMail "Small Packet" class.
421: Note that these regular postal services are not trackable (you knew that,
422: right?), and shipping is FOB our depot. Say "please insure" in the
423: comments, if you want postal insurance and read carefully the discussion
424: about shipping insurance below.
425:
426:
To insure or not to insure? Items lost in the regular mail are at
427: your risk and expense. You agree to accept our shipping records as the
428: final proof of shipment. However, if a problem does occur, your affidavit
429: that the parcel was not received, plus our shipping records, are generally
430: sufficient to persuade Canada post to refund postage paid. Secondly, under
431: such circumstances, we will replace items lost, at manufacturing cost, which
432: is at most half price, and almost trivial for CD sets and posters. For
433: example a poster gone missing in the mail can be replaced for $2.

434:
435: Cost of insurance will vary according to the value of the shipment, except
436: that for small shipments there is a minimum cost of about $7-10 (CDN $ in
437: Canada, US $ elsewhere) - which is why we usually recommend not to insure
438: for small shipments. Moreover, inside USA and Canada, there is a service
439: called (Priority) Express Post, which in addition to trackability and
440: guaranteed faster delivery, includes some insurance. See further discussion
441: below.

442:
443: Default insurance for air parcels > 1 kg to USA: Our post office offers
444: default insurance up to $100 CDN (about $65 US) for air parcels weighing
445: more than 1 kg and that means, really, twice or more than that amount, since
446: we replace losses at cost. So for shipments of approximately 5 or more
447: T-shirts (depending on size) or 9 or more CD ROM sets, you can trust there
448: is at least some insurance, since by default we ship by air.

449:
450: Default insurance for air parcels > 2 kg sent outside USA/Canada:
451: Our post office offers default insurance of up to $100 CDN (about $65 US)
452: for air parcels weighing more than 2 kg. (comments in previous paragraph
453: apply here too).

454:
455: Registration: Outside USA/Canada we typically "register" parcels for
456: weights between 0.2 kg and 2.0 kg. Cost of registration is $7-10 US in
457: addition to the "small packet air" postage. Registration includes $40 US of
458: insurance. You may specify not to register if you wish to accept the risk,
459: or you may specify "please do register" if you are not certain if your
460: package will registered (since otherwise we will use our own judgment,
461: sometimes depending on experience with various countries).
462:
463:
464:
In USA/Canada less than 1% of items go missing in the mail; it might be
465: yours, yet paying for postal insurance is an expensive gamble. But if you
466: absolutely can't stand risk, do insure by all means. In North America
467: consider specifying Express Mail
468: (trackable), or a courier like FEDEX
469: (also trackable).
1.219 austin 470:
1.231 austin 471:
Note that postage cost for a CD set is expected to be around $3 -
1.266 austin 472: $5 USD. Packages will generally be mailed from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
473: (Some US orders are mailed from a US depot -- but unlikely at initial
474: release time). Typical airmail postage rates for quantity 1 are roughly:
1.219 austin 475:

476:

477:
Canada $3 CDN. Expect 7 days.
478:
USA $3 USD ($4 CDN). Expect 7 - 10 days.
479:
World $4 USD ($5 CDN). Expect two weeks.
480:

481:
1.231 austin 482: EXPRESS POST A new service, previously not available, but for Canada
483: and USA only, is Express Post, with 3-6 day delivery, up to $50 insurance
484: included, and trackability from Canadapost
485: This is now an new option on the web order form.
486:
1.219 austin 487:
488:
For a single CD set:
489:

490:
Canada $7. Expect 3 - 4 days.
1.231 austin 491:
USA $10. Expect 4 - 6 days.
1.219 austin 492:

493:
494: If you want your CD to come very quickly, you can choose Fedex or UPS
1.259 jsyn 495: overnight. Note, that for single CDs it is cheaper to get overnight
1.219 austin 496: delivery than to get 2 or 3 day delivery! If you choose overnight,
497: you very likely do NOT want to use the Internet web ordering system,
498: but rather want to order your package by phoning the Computer Shop phone
499: number (403 243-4356). By phoning before 3PM Mountain Time, you can usually
500: have it by early the next morning!
501:
502:
If you are ordering the CD plus other items, consider having only the CD
1.259 jsyn 503: sent by overnight and other things by regular airmail or express post. CDs
1.219 austin 504: are relatively inexpensive to send by courier (we class them as documents),
1.231 austin 505: whereas T-shirts, and especially posters, are quite expensive that way.
506: Sometimes, particularly for posters, we will guess that this is what you
507: want to do. Say in the comments if you really want all items sent by
508: courier, even posters.
1.219 austin 509:
510:
For Canada, and USA only, you may specify "use credit card" in the box
511: where it says courier account number. In that case we will pass on
512: your credit card number to the courier company. You will get a separate
513: debit from them (for the shipping portion only). But we prefer if you do
514: have a courier account number already. If requesting shipping to a company
515: address, ask if they have one that can be used (or phone FEDEX or UPS and
1.231 austin 516: ask what it is).

1.219 austin 517:
518:
Typical Fedex or UPS priority shipping rates for quantity 1 are roughly:
1.27 deraadt 519:

1.219 austin 520:
Canada $13.00 CDN. Overnight if phoned in before 3PM MST.
1.231 austin 521:
USA $19 USD ($28 CDN). Overnight (to most cities) if phoned in before 3PM MST.
1.219 austin 522:
World $36 USD ($55.00 CDN) -- 2 to 4 day service. Must have courier account #. If necessary,
523: apply for one or, otherwise, use insured AIR MAIL post for the closest
524: equivalent.
525:

1.1 deraadt 526:
1.231 austin 527: Partial shipments: Sometimes a T-shirt of a certain size might not be
528: in stock. We will sometimes not send final partial shipments by Express
529: Post or courier even when Express Post or courier is specified on the order
530: form. Give specific instructions in the comments of the order if wanting to
531: override this possible judgement call on our part.
