'Nightmare' drove desperate user to open source,
Computerworld, October 24, 2005
A great tale of how Mark Uemura of PricewaterhouseCoopers Japan
was forced to move to OpenBSD because the alternatives were too costly
and too unreliable.
This quote will rattle some cages:
"IT managers who want to deploy an open source solution but are
worried about company politics should go ahead and do it without
asking," according to Uemura, who was promoted to IT Manager of PWC Japan
after saving the company seven IT-samurais' salaries.
Further, "In Japan large organizations like Morgan Stanley and the
Bank of America have moved all their backend systems to open source,
Uemura said, because with open source you can reduce IT operating
costs without any commercial lock-in."
