53:
54:

55: In September 2003, Chris Tribo published some excerpts of the technical
56: documentation for the AViiON series 400. Having a look at it, it was obvious
57: these systems were built upon a modified MVME188 design, already supported by
1.2 deraadt 58: OpenBSD/mvme88k, but there was no interest in working
1.1 miod 59: on AViiON support at that time.
60:
61:

62: Then, late April 2006, enough boredom convinced Miod Vallat to start a port,
1.2 deraadt 63: even though he did not have access to any AViiON hardware, as a challenge. In two
1.1 miod 64: weeks, thanks to the help of Chris Tribo, a model 410 was running multiuser (but
65: diskless) - a proof that this effort was worth continuing inside the OpenBSD
66: tree. And work continues..

71:
72:

73: All supported models (or with similar designs) should run multi-user but
74: diskless, and currently limited to serial console.
75: Also, on multiprocessor machines, the system will currently run on one processor
76: only.

99: Their design is close to the well-known MVME188 design, with different on-board
100: devices; at the moment only the on-board serial ports and ethernet are
101: supported.
102: The only model tested so far is a model 410, but all the models in this series

110: These machines will be targeted soon as well. They are slightly different
111: from the above series, but not too many, and documentation is available.
112: The current code might already work to some extent.

1.4 miod 118:
5000 and 6000 series
119: These machines may eventually run as well, but lack of on-board device support
120: could be a showstopper. Some documentation is available, but there hasn't been
121: any work towards supporting them yet.
122:
6280 and 8000-8 series
123: Documentation is available, but there hasn't been any work towards supporting
124: them yet.
125:
8500 and 9500 series, and other 88100-based models
126: These systems won't likely be supported unless documentation for them is found.
127:
88110-based models (500, 4500, 5500, 8500+ and 9500+ series)
1.1 miod 128: These systems won't likely be supported until the MVME197 works in
129: mvme88k land. Moreover, these will necessarily use a
130: different hardware design for which there is no documentation available at the
