<h4>The OpenBSD 2.1 Release:</h4>
<p>
The most recent OpenBSD release is 2.1. The files are available on
a number of FTP and AFS mirror servers. For the 2.1 release, look in
the <strong>2.1/</strong> directory on whichever server you choose.
</p>

<h4>Binary Snapshots:</h4>
<p>
Binary snapshots will be made available from time to time on the ftp mirrors.
A snapshot is a release build done by a developer as a test of the system.
These snapshot builds might work OK or... they might not. The snapshots
are made available for people who have specifically requested a build
based on more recent sources.
The snapshots are available on each of the FTP servers in the
directory <strong>snapshots</strong>.
If you plan to use a snapshot, you should read the <a href=snapshots.html>
general description about OpenBSD snapshots</a>.
</p>

<p>
<strong>
NOTE: you cannot fetch binaries directly from cvs.OpenBSD.org or
OpenBSD.org but must use a mirror site. The main OpenBSD machines are
only on a small network pipe in Canada, and that bandwidth is used
primarily by the developers.

<h4><a name=afs>AFS:</a></h4>
This is a list of currently known AFS servers:<p>

<ul>
<li>/afs/ualberta.ca/mirror/openbsd/<br>
	This is located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
</ul>
<p>

<hr>

<p>
The file structure of each FTP/AFS server is roughly:
</p>
<p>
<ul>
<li><strong>.../OpenBSD/2.1/</strong><br>
	Where you find our most recent release. (For each architecture,
	X11 is included if possible).
  <ul>
  <li><strong>alpha/</strong>
  <li><strong>amiga/</strong>
  <li><strong>arc/</strong>
  <li><strong>i386/</strong>
  <li><strong>mac68k/</strong>
  <li><strong>mvme68k/</strong>
  <li><strong>pmax/</strong>
  <li><strong>sparc/</strong>
  <li><strong>src.tar.gz<br></strong>
	Userland sources, which you would place in /usr/src.
	(This does not include kernel sources)
  <li><strong>srcsys.tar.gz<br></strong>
	The Kernel sources, which you would place in /usr/src/sys.
  </ul>
<p>
<li><strong>.../OpenBSD/snapshots/</strong><br>
	For our major architectures, we tend to build mini releases
	of unknown stability and quality about every month or so.
	This is where we place those test releases.
<p>
<li><strong>.../OpenBSD/src/</strong><br>
	This is a cvs checkout of our daily source tree for those
	who want to access individual files. Normally we recommend
	the use of <a href=ctm.html>CTM</a> or
	<a href=anoncvs.html>AnonCVS</a> instead of mirroring
	this location.
<p>
<li><strong>.../OpenBSD/tools/</strong><br>
	Various other little bits.
</ul>
</p>

<p>
People setting up new FTP mirrors will be interested in
the following disk space usage estimates:

<pre>
   315MB  2.0        (OpenBSD 2.0 release)
   500MB  2.1        (OpenBSD 2.1 release)
    27MB  domestic   (domestic distributions, i.e. hp300)
   500MB snapshots (current snapshots, normally >= 2.1 distribution size)
   244MB src (ftpable src tree, checked out from anoncvs nightly)
     1MB tools (helpful tools for OpenBSD stuff..)
  --------------
   1.5GB  Total -- all collections
</pre>
</p>
