24: OpenBSD/loongson is a port intended to run on systems based upon the
25: Loongson (also known as <i>Godson</i>) 2E and 2F MIPS-compatible processors,
26: using the
27: <a href="http://www.pmon2000.com/">PMON</a> firmware and boot loader.
28:
29: <p>
30: The current port maintainer is Miod Vallat
31: (<a href="mailto:miod@openbsd.org">miod@openbsd.org</a>).

48: The idea of an OpenBSD/loongson started when the EMTEC Gdium Liberty netbook
49: was announced. Unfortunately, the general availability of these machines kept
1.2 miod 50: being delayed. Because of this, focus switched to the Lemote Yeeloong netbook
1.1 miod 51: instead. After procrastinating for months, serious work started in august 2009,
52: and the kernel work was completed by the end of november 2009.
53: <p>
54: Unfortunately, most of the Loongson 2F-based hardware available at that time
55: suffers from serious problems in the processor's branch prediction logic,
56: causing the system to freeze, for which <b>no errata has been published</b>
57: except for an
58: <a href="http://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2009-11/msg00387.html">e-mail</a>
59: on a toolchain mailing-list.
60: <p>
61: After a rush of adding silicon problems workarounds, the port to the Lemote
1.2 miod 62: Yeeloong was completed and self hosting by the end of january 2010.

66: <h3><font color="#0000e0"><strong>Supported hardware:</strong></font></h3>
67: <p>
68: The OpenBSD/loongson kernel has generic support for Loongson 2E and Loongson 2F
69: processors, as well as the 2F integrated PCI and memory controller.
70: Specific hardware support is then written on a design-by-design basis.
71: <p>
72: At the moment, the following machines are supported:

1.1 miod 75: <br>
76: Both the 8.9" and 10" models are supported.
77: All on-board devices but the audio controller are supported.

84: <p>
85: Development is currently pretty hectic at the moment, although it will slow
86: down in preparation for the first OpenBSD/loongson release.
87: <p>
88: All supported systems run multiuser, and a currently unaccelerated
89: X server is available.
