1.1 miod 28: OpenBSD/loongson is a port intended to run on systems based upon the
29: Loongson (also known as <i>Godson</i>) 2E and 2F MIPS-compatible processors,
30: using the
31: <a href="http://www.pmon2000.com/">PMON</a> firmware and boot loader.
32:
33: <p>
34: The current port maintainer is Miod Vallat
35: (<a href="mailto:miod@openbsd.org">miod@openbsd.org</a>).

51: <p>
52: The idea of an OpenBSD/loongson started when the EMTEC Gdium Liberty netbook
53: was announced. Unfortunately, the general availability of these machines kept
1.2 miod 54: being delayed. Because of this, focus switched to the Lemote Yeeloong netbook
1.1 miod 55: instead. After procrastinating for months, serious work started in august 2009,
56: and the kernel work was completed by the end of november 2009.
57: <p>
58: Unfortunately, most of the Loongson 2F-based hardware available at that time
59: suffers from serious problems in the processor's branch prediction logic,
60: causing the system to freeze, for which <b>no errata has been published</b>
61: except for an
62: <a href="http://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2009-11/msg00387.html">e-mail</a>
63: on a toolchain mailing-list.
64: <p>
65: After a rush of adding silicon problems workarounds, the port to the Lemote
1.2 miod 66: Yeeloong was completed and self hosting by the end of january 2010.

70: <h3><font color="#0000e0"><strong>Supported hardware:</strong></font></h3>
71: <p>
72: The OpenBSD/loongson kernel has generic support for Loongson 2E and Loongson 2F
73: processors, as well as the 2F integrated PCI and memory controller.
74: Specific hardware support is then written on a design-by-design basis.
75: <p>
76: At the moment, the following machines are supported:

1.1 miod 79: <br>

81: All on-board devices but the audio controller are supported.

89: Development is currently pretty hectic at the moment, although it will slow

91: <p>
92: All supported systems run multiuser, and a currently unaccelerated
93: X server is available.
