49: <p>
50: The Sun3 port of OpenBSD was derived from the NetBSD/sun3 port, when the
51: sun3 and sun3x ports were still different entities. Noone showed much
52: interest in OpenBSD/sun3 for a while, although the code was mostly kept in
53: sync with NetBSD.
54: </p>
55:
56: <p>
57: Eventually, Kenneth Stailey started working on the port, but since he was
58: living in the USA, he could not export a release he would have built, so he
59: lost interest working on this port.
60: </p>
61:
62: <p>
1.50 miod 63: Early 2000, Miod Vallat attempted to bring the port back in shape, making
1.45 miod 64: the code compile again, and devising completely new installation media. The
1.48 jmc 65: port even shipped with complete X Window System client and utilities, although
66: there was no working X server.
1.45 miod 67: </p>
68:
69: <p>
70: The port lived for a few releases, but unfortunately hardware problems and
71: lack of time conspired to prevent catching up with NetBSD on code, and the
72: sun3 code was not ready for the switch from the old Mach virtual memory
73: system to
74: <a href="http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=uvm&sektion=9">uvm</a>,
75: and missed the 3.0 release, hoping that the code would be fixed in time
76: for the 3.1 release. Unfortunately, this has not been the case, and eventually
77: it was decided to remove the code from the tree.
